About IMEI Numbers
What is an IMEI?
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique 15-digit number assigned to every mobile device. It serves as a fingerprint for your phone, helping identify it on cellular networks worldwide.
The IMEI is used by network operators to identify valid devices and can be used to stop stolen phones from accessing the network.
How to Find Your IMEI
- Dial *#06# - Works on all phones
- Settings Menu - Usually under "About Phone" or "General"
- Physical Label - Check under the battery or on the SIM tray
- Original Box - IMEI is printed on the packaging
IMEI Structure
An IMEI consists of three parts:
- TAC (8 digits): Type Allocation Code - identifies the device model
- Serial Number (6 digits): Unique identifier for each device
- Check Digit (1 digit): Validation digit calculated using the Luhn algorithm
